Bus powered by our positive energy and actions!
Hi everyone next time you are in our classroom check out our Class Energy Bus. Totally energised by our Good Deeds towards others and Personal Effort. The class have really embraced this theme and contributed to the "Energy Bus"
Week 6 and officially now Winter BRRRRRRR!
Yes we are now officially in Winter and hopefully you all made the most of the weather over the long weekend break! Leaves are now almost gone from the trees and winter sports well into their draws. Well done those children who have opted to play sports for Otonga too. Some children have also joined the Junior Kapa Haka. So if you wish your child to join also, let me know as it's still not too late to join.
Last week I met with most parents in the 3 way interviews. I apologise if you had to wait. While we as teachers try to keep on schedule and provide a warm place to wait; I didn't have any breaks at all on the nights between families so it did become challenging. Still I was pleased to see and share with you all. When you have finished with your child's folder please return this to school.
Many thanks for those who have already done this. Look out for their goals pasted into their homework books."Book Fair" week was also very successful and a big thanks to all the parents who supported this on the night of our 3 way interviews with purchases.
Today we were very lucky with the weather and had an awesome afternoon at our Junior Cross Country. They ran like the wind today and it was great to see the support they gave other children running. It doesn't come easy to every child, however I was impressed with the effort every child made on the day. Special congratulations goes to Cara for coming second in her race with a spectacular sprint to the finish from third place!
While I was unable to attend the Pirate dress up day (Darn my favourite day) last Friday, due to being on a course Mrs Weir took some photos which capture some very mischievous pirates in room 3 on that day. Attached are the photos below......

If you wish to come with us, please return the attached form with your contact details. It will be a great trip and build on our work we have done so far about the "rocks " we live upon in Rotorua.

Week 4
Week 4 and amazingly we haven't had a full class yet to have a class photo taken for term 2!!! Still we haven't let the grass grow under our feet launching into our Topic
As a science focus we are looking at the Physical World and Our Planet. We live in a pretty unique place in Rotorua, world reknowned for its Thermal activity so we are looking at the composition of our planet to understand the many Legends and facts about Rotorua. The Rocks display has really brought many gems (pardon the pun) out in the open capturing the children's minds as they have shared their own rocks from home
Today we have even had a visit from a Jeweller showing the "Precious" Igneous rocks and how we find and then work on them to make them special. Including a 1.5 carat white diamond ring! Very special.
A big thanks to Hayley and Phil for sharing their knowledge today.
We will also cover this term how the Earths crust is made from the different rock types and look at the 'Rock Cycle" that occurs on earth over millions of years.
Our trip to Te Puia will further support this and is now confirmed for WEDNESDAY the 21st of JUNE. So please mark this in your calendars. We will be going with room 4 on that day and a notice with details will come home shortly ( please look out for this.) If you are able to accompany us to help with supervision please return the attached slip.
You may have noticed or heard from your child about our Energy Bus on the class display board. This is to reinforce how we energise ourselves, others and events with our goodwill and kindness. This follows on from our unit on making friends last term. Helping others, encouraging others efforts and giving our best efforts are "This Terms Focus" ( as part of our Key Competencies." Responsibility for Ourselves" and "Respect" ) This was seen in our recent Fun Run and in class play activities. If you see this at home please encourage and acknowledge their efforts to help.
3 Way Interviews:
Today you will also have received an address and code to book your time for 3 way interviews next week. We have 2 days Wednesday and Thursday. This needs to be completed online. If this is difficult for you , you can make the bookings in our school library/ computer suite. A reminder that this is a 3 way meeting so your child will need to come with you. Our focus is on where to next and making new goals together to sustain progress. You will also be able to take home their folders to see samples of work completed so far. Returning these the following week to the class.
The cooler weather is now here with some spectacular frosts experienced already. Amazingly some children seemed to be sneaking out of the house in the morning with no coats or jumpers to wear! However these same children are cold during the day and are often sick or want to stay inside during breaks . Can you please help me and check to make sure they have an extra layer of clothing for when we go outside. We do try to keep the rooms warm, however outside activities often need the extra layers and shoes.
Well I look forward to seeing you all next week with your child to celebrate their progress so far and plan goals for them.

Welcome back to Term 2
Hi everyone really looking forward to seeing you all on Monday! I'm sure you will all have LOTS to tell me and share with everyone else.
Don't forget you will need shoes for our training runs, big smiles for Bernie and your friends and of course all your Library and reading books you took home in the holidays.

Final week of term 1
Hi everyone not long now till the Easter break (where you can catch up with the family and sleep,...and some of these children are going to need it)
The term has been so successful in so many ways, the new friendships, learning and skills they have acquired and their new confidence to work in teams for daily challenges, supporting each other.
This term the class have covered TIME extensively and I encourage you to keep the time aspect up in everyday life. Both in clocks and calendars giving your child something to hang their number knowledge on. O'clock and half past is mastered, the next step is counting in 5's around the clock.
Having a simple calendar for your child in their room too, for them, also develops that understanding of sequence,counting down days to.... birthdays and important dates coming up and planning for future events.
Below are their Designer Clocks which they have made this term. All individual and creative in their own right ....really thrilled with them! As the class are.

| Designer Analogue Clocks by Room 3 This short week we are looking at Easter through a "Scientists Eye" . Today we looked at the seasons and why they are the opposites of other countries in the World. We will build on this to recognise signs of Spring which is the symbols also associated with Easter. (They need to know why these eggs suddenly appear in chocolate this time of the year)
We will also talk about the weather and nature how it wakens up in Spring and use the analogy of new starts to explain the eggs.
This will develop into the giving of eggs to others as a symbol of new starts, rebirth, forgiveness of the past to give weight to the lessons on our wall. (Blood Blobs)
This term we have used these lessons to find out and recognise the things we need to be a good person / friend and also a strong leader in the future.
The final lesson for this term will be forgiving the past wrongs and starting anew in the spirit of friendship.
As the future leaders of our world they can never be too young to practise the "Golden Rule" of thinking of and acting towards others as you would like them to be, with you.
Compassion sadly is not often modeled in our world news at present so in room 3 we are starting young and celebrating and acknowledging these lessons to develop this in our character.
Of course we will also be having a special story about the Easter Bunny and his special message along with fun Easter Bonnets....a very English tradition.
Should I not see you before the holidays have a happy and safe one with your Angel!

House Day .
We were so lucky with House Day with fine weather and excellent spirits from all the children as they went around in their teams. No doubt very tired that night but a great effort from everyone

It's not every day you have a visitor who is a KuniKuni pig....and well trained as well!
Yes we were lucky enough to have Eli's dad bring in their pet Kuni Kuni piglet (who is 8 weeks old) to share with the class. I'm not sure if the squeals of delight came from "Piggy Small" or the class. He was a delight to behold and well trained already. He rolled over, he sat on demand and even twirled round. All well rewarded with his favourite food Grapes.He grunted with delight and lapped up all the pats and attention. The photos say it all.
