Monday Week 5 and.....

Yes can you believe it ? We had everyone here today, for the first time this term. Sadly by interval 1 child had to go home really ill. Just a warning that a tummy bug is going around along with chest and ear infections in the class, so please check your child is well before sending them to school as it's spreading so easily.
But on the happy side the trees are starting to blossom SPRING is just around the corner!
Move over Winter Spring is on it's way!

Finishing off Maths Week with a FUN filled day of Mathematical Challenges!

Working in small groups of 4,

The classes in year two completed a four class rotation today taking in the Strand activities  of Time, Temperature, Measuring Length, Capacity, Volume and Construction. Here are a few photos from the Time and Temperature activities from our own room.

The winning structure in the "given' time frame.

Here the groups were challenged in building the tallest structure TOGETHER.
Paddle Pops and pegs were used with some ingenious solutions.

Time  and Temperature activity challenges.

Timing the Marble roll in SECONDS on the I pad stopwatch.
Stacking uneven shapes isn't as easy as it looks, lots of strategising and problem solving needed to succeed .

Time keeping a new skill for some!

Using a Thermometer also was a new skill for some children....they were quite fascinated by the rise and fall of the mercury in different temperature liquids

More photos will come to hand for viewing but you can imagine it is difficult photographing and Teaching.
A wonderful day of learning , however I'm sure they will all sleep well tonight.

A surprise visitor!

What a wonderful surprise we had this morning with Shantelle (Masons mum) coming in to share one of their new born lambs with us. Mason has been busy at home on the farm helping out with lambing. This little lamb (20 hours old) was a special chance for most of the children to see and touch her and really experience a new born lamb up close. A very special thanks Mason and mum. The photos speak for themselves.
She had the strongest bleat ever for someone so young! much to the delight of the class

The little Lamb was going to the vets to check out her foreleg which she was struggling to walk on. She was captivated by the children.

She Began to fall asleep with all the gentle strokes and warmth of Shantelle

A special visit....

Brooklyn and her family recently had a special holiday in the far North of Queensland. We were lucky enough to have both Brooklyn and Kim come in and share with the class some amazing photos and details of their trips to wild life reserves. The class were enthralled especially about the crocodiles and snakes (which Brooklyn held!) It was really great for them to come back and share and a huge thankyou to Kim for the effort you put into the talk.
Brooklyn sharing her wildlife holiday with the class.

Brooklyn  points to a photo on her project chart

Just a reminder of the upcoming Social event for all parents at school.
This is on Saturday the 19th
and is a wonderful way for you to meet new parents in your childs class.
In this busy age of full time work our social networks often become frayed or disappear altogether!!!. Knowing who is in your neighbourhood or who is in your childs' class can help in emergencies .
Please consider coming and have a chilled out night with us all.
Hope to see you there

Welcome back to Term 3

Hi everyone a wonderful start tot the term with great weather (especially after the Holidays!)
We have had a few changes within the class with Harlow Mason joining us from Australia. A warm welcome to both Harlow and her family. Also due to a change of home circumstances both Cameron and Adrian have left us and are now at new schools.
Our term is full with a Science focus . We will be looking at the" Plant" family Living world bringing in the idea again of "cycles" on Planet Earth and how we live  symbiotically as animals. We will also be looking at Citizenship and the Focus here is on the Key Competencies. We have already begun on the idea of Collaboration. so watch this space.....for enlightening conversations from your child on this area
I look forward to catching up with you all in the near future....
